EDMR

edmr & trauma

When we experience struggles in life they can leave a mark. These could be big events including (but not exclusive to) near death experiences, a significant loss, or sexual trauma. They could also be a culmination of different types of earlier pervasive events like abuse or neglect, bullying, and difficult family relationships. Sometimes we may not even realize the impact of the past until something happens today that triggers an emotional response.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of difficult life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy, people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference.

EMDR helps those memories and responses get unstuck. This helps restore the system to a more balanced state that is resilient and grounded in the present.

wHAT IS edmr therapy?

EMDR therapy, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach that helps individuals heal from traumatic experiences and distressing memories. Through bilateral stimulation techniques like eye movements or taps, EMDR stimulates the brain's natural healing mechanisms, facilitating the reprocessing of traumatic events and the integration of more adaptive thoughts and beliefs.

During an EMDR session, a trained therapist guides the individual in recalling the distressing memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation. This desensitizes the emotional and physiological distress associated with the memory, allowing for the emergence of new insights, perspective, and relief. EMDR has been extensively researched and has shown effectiveness in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, phobias, and other trauma-related conditions.

EMDR therapy promotes resilience, adaptive coping skills, and a path towards a more positive future. It offers individuals the opportunity to reprocess traumatic memories in a safe and controlled environment, leading to improved emotional well-being, self-esteem, and overall quality of life. Our therapists are trained in EMDR and provide a supportive environment for your journey towards healing and recovery
