Sonder Psychotherapy & Wellness is an out-of-network provider, so we do not accept insurance, but we encourage you to utilize the benefits of your health insurance. Many clients are able to receive up to 80% reimbursement for individual therapy sessions after meeting their deductible.
Here are some steps you can take to determine what benefits you may have with your health insurance.
Find out what your out-of-network coverage is by looking at your insurance card and determine if it is PPO or POS and call the number on the back. If you see several numbers to call and one of them says “BH” or “Behavioral Health”, we’d recommend starting with that number.
When you call, here are some questions to ask the representative you speak with:
– “Do I have out-of-network coverage for behavioral health?”
– “What deductible do I need to meet before you will start reimbursing?”
– “What percent do you cover?”
Some additional things: whether it’s therapy or a medical professional you’re seeing, any out-of-network healthcare you engage in contributes to your deductible. Please note, not all insurance companies deem couples therapy as a medical necessity so they may not cover that service. You can determine if couple’s therapy is covered/reimbursed by asking ”do you cover for cpt code 90847”?

When we experience struggles in life they can leave a mark. These could be big events including (but not exclusive to) near death experiences, a significant loss, or sexual trauma. They could also be a culmination of different types of earlier pervasive events like abuse or neglect, bullying, and difficult family relationships. Sometimes we may not even realize the impact of the past until something happens today that triggers an emotional response. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of difficult life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy, people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. EMDR helps those memories and responses get unstuck. This helps restore the system to a more balanced state that is resilient and grounded in the present.
